I have "issues" both with black over-the-knee boots (which are predicted to be big for Fall 2009, hooray, hooray) and fishnet stockings, so this photo is a winner in my book.

Plus-size Pinup in Stockings

I've been on a quest to find sexy, artistic photographs of plus-sized women in stockings since I first started this blog and it is ridiculously difficult to find great photos. It's even harder to find shots of extra-curvy pinup girls. This shot of model Hanna Oxford that I ran across on Tumblr is awesome. I've been curious about wet nylon for a while, so the photo plays on my own desire to get into the tub (even though she's wearing fishnets) and I just love her outfit, down to her tiara.

It's a great, fun, sassy, relaxed pose, though I can't help but notice she's doing the smart thing and keeping those pretty boots out of the water.

I'd love to say that I'm posting this image just to prove that fishnet gloves are not just for strippers to my friend, G who threatened to put the smackdown on me if I didn't stop with the crazy talk about fishnet gloves being kind of pretty, but that wouldn't be true. Also, she really would put the smackdown on me and I'm not into pain.

Some of you may have noticed that I've been posting with far less frequency on Stocking Vixen over the last month and that my posts have been shorter than in the past. It is not because I have lost my passion for nylon, or even for writing about it, but because I have been hard at work on a new project that is drawing a tremendous amount of my time and focus. Will I be back, full force when it's time to share? Yes I will. Can I tell you what it is yet? No I can't, hence the fishnet shh. What I am working on is Top Secret (and Top Awesome). I hope you will feel it is worth waiting, but until then, I ask for your patience and understanding as my posting will be lighter for the next couple of months.

I'm not going anywhere, though!

White Fishnet Stockings?

Any regular reader of this blog knows I love fishnets in any form, be it stockings, pantyhose, or socks and lately I've even taken to looking at photos of fishnet gloves and getting a funny feeling inside. I have exactly zero idea how they would have anything to do with anything else I'm prone to wearing currently, but I still like looking at them more than I really should.

Recently while making my Tumblr blog (which is mildly not-safe-for-work) I ran across these two pairs of white stockings, which are very similar in design to each other, somewhat weblike, somewhat netted and definitely evoke my favorite "f" word (no, not that one). I'm not really what to call them. Does anyone know the official name for this type of netting? I love the combination of delicacy and texture. Would this be considered a variant on white fishnet stockings?

Pussycat Dolls Fishnets & Stockings, Live Photos, Britney Spears Tour, Exclusive Pics

As I said earlier this week when I was giving a sneak peek of this post, one absolutely fabulous and very generous Stocking Vixen reader in Texas attended the Britney Spears, The Circus show on March 31st in Dallas and took his camera with him specifically to take photos for all of us, knowing that Britney and her opening act, The Pussycat Dolls, would not disappoint when it came to showing off their legs, wearing awesome heels and looking red hottentot in pantyhose and stockings.

Based on his stunning photographs, he was absolutely right. Every image above is a preview image and, when clicked upon will open into a much higher-quality image that's so good you can see the lines in the fishnets.

There's a lot going on in the hosiery department, so let's take a look.

• Four of the five dolls are wearing visible hosiery and they all have on fishnets of some kind. Though it's not clear in the preview images, both Dolls in stockings are wearing nude fishnets layered under their thigh highs. (It looks especially awesome in the higher-resolution photo of Kimberly doing the splits up the pole).
• The two Dolls in pantyhose without stockings seem on first glance to be wearing almost identical sequined fishnets, but a closer look reveals that brunette, Melody's pair has backseams and a denser allotment of bling than blonde, Ashley's.
  
• The red-haired Doll, Jessica, is wearing black, sequined fishnet stockings over fishnets. This is just about enough to cause an explosion in my tiny little fishnet-loving brain. Fishnets OVER fishnets? Now I can die.
• Kimberly's black opaque thigh highs seem to be working a little bit of the "am I a sock or am I stocking?" angle, which makes sense, given the sportiness of the rest of her look. What fascinates me most about these socks is that they are toeless, because her bare little toes peek out from her peep-toe boots. It's also possible that she's wearing a stirrup sock or a leg warmer. I would love to know.
• I wonder if Nicole was sad that she didn't get any fancy hosiery or if she comforts herself with the thought that she's the lead singer.

The Pussycat Dolls didn't do any costume changes during their show, but I think their hosiery was very creative and their costumer deserves a pat on the back for the choices and combinations. I also love it that the black boots are so tight that they seem to evoke latex in some cases.

I'm thrilled and grateful to be able to share these superb photos and have seen a couple from the Britney portion of the show already that are just spectacular. For now, please enjoy these wonderful shots and keep your eyes open for the next set of photos some time this week, I hope.

Sexy, Super-Extra HOT Photos of Women in Stockings

Okay, the title of this blog post isn't the most creative in the world, but my brain is pure mush, having spent the last hour or so perusing COED magazine's 49 Sexy Stocking Stunners.

As they put it:

There’s just something about how this ingenious garment looks on the legs that can make a man lose his damn mind. So to push you one step closer to the loony bin, we’ve put together this tribute to stockings that’s so hot, you might have to take a break to get all the way through.

I thought that being a straight woman, I didn't have to take a break, but apparently these photos are SO HOT that they can also damage the brain function of a female stocking junkie. There's a bit more airbrushing than I care for in some of the shots, but many are just incredibly sexy and I highly recommend hoofing it over to take a look at this collection. Not only are there 49 sexy women in stockings in the article, but each photo links back to a separate gallery (many with somewhat NSFW images or ads, so be forewarned) with many more images of these models often from the same photoshoot. So, I probably just spent the last hour looking at something like 250 photos of incredibly gorgeous women in spectacular hosiery. The things I do for all of you, it's amazing I'm still alive, quite frankly.

Fishnet Friday

Perhaps those of you who read Stocking Vixen on a regular basis may have noticed that I have been more than mildly excited by the start of Fishnet Stockings Week on March 4th over at one of my favorite blogs, Stockings Addict. I really wasn't certain what to expect, but anything that meant an entire week would be devoted to fishnets, my absolute favorite type of hosiery, I couldn't help but get in a tizzy over. I think she must have heard me hyperventilating outside the door of her blog, and Treacle took some of the suspense away on the 1st of March explaining:

Fishnet Stockings Week starts March 4th and continues through March 11th. We'll start with a brief, technical overview of what defines the fishnet and talk about some basic differences in type and style of net. Immediately afterwards, I'm going to start posting reviews. Expect to see thorough discussions of fishnet hose from brands as diverse as Wolford, Falke, Betsey Johnson, Jonathan Aston, Aristoc, and Secrets in Lace. The goal for me is to have you, my readers, not only become more acquainted with fishnet stockings in general but also to have a better idea of which fishnets would be best for you.

She did indeed post a wonderful manifesto on the beauty and versatility of fishnet, as well as a great explanation of the different sizes and shape of net and how to put together different types of looks.

Most importantly, because it leads to an excuse to wear piles of hosiery, she has declared Friday the 6th of March, Fishnet Friday and is encouraging everyone to put on their fishnets and enjoy them together. If you do, drop by and let the world know what you're wearing.


I made two special purchases for this event. Some topless industrial net stockings, which are the stockings that originally lead to my DIY thigh high experiment, and some diamond net pantyhose, which have much more awesome feet than are shown in the product illustration. I'll try to post a photo here tomorrow. My camera seems to be hiding. I also have a pair of very sweet lilac fishnet knee socks that are topped by a ribbon, that I bought after Christmas and have been saving for a special occasion. Tomorrow seems to be the perfect occasion to bring them out. I will have to change a few times during the day, but it is all worth it in the name of celebrating hosiery! Sheer, Shimmering Pantyhose of the Week

The people who read Stocking Vixen have proven to be very supportive and very generous with their time and suggestions. I want to take a moment to everyone who has been so supportive and welcoming this last month as I got the blog up and going and let you know I'm truly enjoying the new friendships I'm forming. I really owe some very special thanks to Stockingmonster out there on Planet Hosiery who has taken it upon himself to evangelize for me on Twitter daily, as well as share with me his extensive experience in buying and enjoying legwear. The man knows hosiery. Thank you so much to you all, but especially you, SM.

You guys have also been great about suggesting things to write about, either directly or indirectly. (Very obviously, tomorrow is the start of Fishnet Stockings week at Stockings Addict and everyone should be ready, by the way.) My most recent post about the roller derby was inspired by a conversation I had with Kevin in Texas. The roller derby wouldn't have been on my radar, otherwise.

This brings me to the beautiful pantyhose pictured above. Another Kevin, one with whom I've been corresponding for a little while (so we'll call him early-adopter Kevin), dropped me a note about some gorgeous hose he saw on a fashion blog that he thought I might like to share with everyone. It lead me to a site I hadn't run across before, LuxeLegwear, which carries lots of hosiery, but seems to have an especially nice European pantyhose selection. Picasso had his Blue Period, I seem to be in my Lusting After Metallics Period and the gorgeous pair of Vertigo Light pantyhose pictured above is doing a LOT to stimulate the stocking button.

Every pair has a little gold woven into the fibers, so the surface is very reflective and shimmery and I am just enough of a show-off to wear these to the supermarket. They're too pretty to keep in the drawer for special occasions. It's a sheer-to-waist pantyhose and comes in Nude, Berry and Black and I think it's probably extra beautiful because it's 10 denier, so nice and sheer. It comes in two sizes and fits up to 5"11/175 pounds.

Roller Derby Fashion Statement

I have found my sport! Anything you can do while wearing roller skates and completely awesome patterned pantyhose and fishnets, sign me UP! So, if anyone is looking for me, I'm down at the roller rink, practicing my body slams, getting ready to move to Australia so that I can join the Victorian Roller Derby League.

I actually think I may have just ordered an identical pair of black and white striped tights as the skater in the center, but the order has yet to arrive. I'm ready! The girl on the left looks like she's getting ready for Fishnet Stockings Week over at Stockings Addict.

Fishnet Peace Offering

Since I was so naughty and didn't blog much at all the last few days, here's a photo of me in fishnet pantyhose and t-strap shoes from my personal archives. I think I took this last October or so. It's my peace offering to the wonderful people who read Stocking Vixen. Thank you and I'll be back tomorrow.

Fishnets and a Cuban Have Landed

The Wide Lace-Top Fishnets I was craving from Stockingirl have finally arrived in the store. There's just something I love so much about the size of this particular fishnet. In the oh no they didn't category, they have come out with a fishnet version of their gorgeous Madonna thigh high with the colored-lace top, (which normally has a sheer nylon bottom) in black/red, black/royal blue and black/pink. The Cuban-heeled thigh highs have two silicone bands to help them stay up without a garter belt and are 85% nylon/15% lycra to give you that retro fully-fashioned-stocking-look a little bit more on the run than the real deal. These would be great for a rushed morning, when you simply still had to have a vintage look.

Fishnets Party

Treacle at Stockings Addict has declared March 4th the start of Fishnet Stockings Week. I have no idea what this entails, but since I take my duties as Hosiery Ambassador™ very seriously, sign me UP! I will make some special purchases and document and review them in honor of the occasion, as well as blog about whatever Stockings Addict does.

Long Socks to the Rescue

My furnace has decided to start acting up, probably the pilot light, and since it is locked down tighter than Ft. Knox and the troubleshooting tips we followed didn't get it to start heating again (the blower is working, but there is no heat) I am going to have to have our furnace guy come and look at it, which is terrifying because he thinks he is part of the family and stays for hours and says "literally," every two minutes, only he pronounces it "litch-rully". The furnace is brand-new, less than a year old, so I'm not concerned that it's anything too major causing the issue, but it's still a pain. We have space heaters from when the old furnace kicked the bucket, but it's brisk in the parts of the house without them, so I have turned to my trusty Long Cuffable Scrunchable Socks from Sock Dreams to help keep me warm. I like these socks, although they're not a front-line sock for me, mostly because there's so much bulk to them, but today they are a life-saver.

Of course, when I go to the dentist today, I am going to be all about the nude thigh high nylon stockings with some ivory swiss dot fishnets over the top and my brown patent Mary Janes. My legs would be sad if they were boring while they were on display when I was upside down in the dentist's chair.
